My hibiscus is full of blossoms and buds again. Hopefully, I've saved this plant/tree from the little white bugs that destroyed my other plant.

A new shoot is coming on my orchid plant. Is it a flower stem or a root? I'm hoping for another flower stem!

For Christmas our nieces gave us a gift certificate to Simply to the Table. What a wonderful gift-although we have not tasted the meals yet, the first one is in the oven right now. You make your menu choices from the menu offered and show up. Everything is out, ready for you to assemble; the tomatoes, onions chopped, the cheese shredded and the main meat premeasured. Everything you need to add is lined up with the appropriate measuring utensit in it or next to it. We prepared 9 meals in an hour maybe faster because we were the only ones there, but it was fun! And they did the clean-up. Thank you, Nieces!

It was a sad day! All the little white spots on yesterday's picture of the plant were little white bugs. When I noticed half my plant was dying, I looked more closely and discovered the underside of the leaves were just covered with them, so out in the snow it went. I almost cried!
I've battled these bugs before and it's something that is impossible to do in the house, so to save my big hibiscus tree I had to make the sacrifice.

This is a plant I purchased at the St Paul Winter Carnival Orchid Show at Como Park Conservatory in January. It is supposed to-and does-catch the little bugs that fly around house plants. Does anyone know the name of it? It's supposed to be easy to start new plants from the leaves, so I will try to do that.

Dirt Cake
When I attended my first department Christmas party at my last job, when it was time for dessert, I was handed a flower pot with a poinsetta "growing" in the "dirt". I didn't know what to do but was told that was dessert and to dig in. It was-underneath the Oreo cookie crumbs was a good pudding/whip cream mixture. I could hardly wait to show this off to the family, so served it at a family get together. The grandchildren loved it and have been asking for this dessert for their birthday cake ever since-16 years. Now I don't even bother with the flower but substitute gummy worms or the chocolate candies that look like rocks. That one was served in a dump truck. Fun!
